Do you remember Miss Jinma from the 1950s? A lot of you may not have been born yet, so let me tell you a little about this once-coveted job!
Let’s turn back time to the 1950s. The job of Miss Jinma was one many women longed for. They were like today’s flight attendants, except they worked on buses instead of planes, performing tasks such as delivering tea, newspapers, towels and lunchboxes to passengers. Some of their more special responsibilities, however, included introducing the various sites and scenes along the journey to passengers and helping the driver check their surroundings for approaching vehicles and other possible dangers. They also reminded passengers how to stay safe while getting on and off the bus. Then, at the end of the day, they assisted the driver with backing up and parking the vehicle. Miss Jinma was like the bus driver’s second pair of eyes, responsible for keeping an eye on the bus’s surroundings.

At present, car manufacturers in various countries have stringent sets of waterproof tests for systems and equipment that go on the outside of a vehicle’s body. The goal is to make sure these products can withstand any of the extreme, natural conditions that a vehicle might encounter, like rainstorms, floods and even the powerful jets of water emitted by the automatic car wash system at gas stations. If a design is not perfectly waterproof, it may lead to system failures and other potentially disastrous situations such as accidents.
