FTIR
Technical Concept |
Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is a non-destructive analysis technology and the infrared observation properties of the substance of interest can be obtained from transmittance/wave number relation. |
FTIR uses an interferometer to induce interference patterns, which can be converted to infrared spectra after Fourier transformation. Infrared absorption-induced vibrational and rotational energy differences between energy levels can be detected by an FTIR spectrometer.
This technology is mainly used in organic functional group determination, qualitative comparison, semi-quantitative analysis, and minor inorganic functional group analysis. In general, the wave number of the transmission FTIR falls in a range between 4000 to 400 cm-1, and 4000 to 650 cm-1 for the attenuated total reflection FTIR.
Application |
1.Surface unknown substance analysis |
By comparing with database and fingerprint spectra, functional group determination can be obtained. In general, the size of the substance for determination should be larger than 50 μm and the thickness should be larger than 1μm. Smaller than the above size, more discussions are needed.
2.Quantitative comparison |
- Surface unknown substances can be quantitatively compared with already known substances in the process or suspicious substances.
- Normal and abnormal areas comparison on the same sample or standard and test samples comparison.
3.Semi quantitative analysis |
7 samples with different known concentrations are highly suggested to achieve semi-quantitative purposes.
4.Mapping |
The concentration gradient of functional group can be analyzed, and local spectra together with spatial distribution can be also provided.
